Newton's First Law of Motion
Newton's first law of motion states that every object in the universe continues in its state of rest or of uniform motion along a straight line unless an external unbalanced force acts on it.
If an external force is not applied to a massive object then;
1. The body in rest will remains at rest.
2. The body in motion will continue to move in the same straight line.
Newton's first law of motion is also known as law of inertia.
Importance of Newton's First Law of Motion
1. The law presents incrtia as the basic inherent property of all matter.
2. The law gives a qualitative definition of force. According to this law, force is an external agency which producess or tends to produce a change in the state of rest or of uniform motion of a body.
